The Speaker:

Abbas Mirakhor received his PhD from Kansas State University and before his appointment at the IMF, served as Professor and Chair of Economics Department at the Florida Institute of Technology. He has published in a variety of areas, including microeconomic theory, mathematical economics, and Islamic economics. He has also co-authored numerous books in Islamic Economics and Islamic Finance including Theoretical Studies in Islamic Banking and Finance (2005) and New Directions in Islamic Finance and Economics (2008) He sits on various Advisory Boards and is still actively involved in research work both in academia and in the IBF industry. For his contribution to the discipline, Dr. Mirakhor received the Islamic Development Bank's (IDB) 2003 prize in Islamic economics (together with Dr. Mohsin Khan).
